I can feel your excitement right now – your new rebranded website is built, launched, and ready for your clients. You invested in a designer and a photographer. You took the time to understand who you have been working with, and who you want to work with moving forward. Maybe you’ve even seen inquiries shoot up!
But you have bigger dreams for your business. Expansion of your services, new products, newsletters out monthly, maybe an online course?
Have a look at my top 5 practices below before taking on a new project in your business.
Take note of what people keep asking you for that may or may not relate to your current offer. I have a running Notes tab on my phone specifically for these questions, and that led me exactly to my new foray into offering on-brand content creation for business owners moving online! If people who need something keep asking you if you can help or offer something, that’s the biggest gift because you know there’s demand for something that comes easily to you! Own it!!
Keep reviews together and highlight key phrases. I highly encourage you to make reviews part of your workflow once a project is complete. I keep a Canva document (designed on-brand of course!) where all reviews live to be easily accessible for Instagram stories and other uses. I highlight key phrases in another color to start piecing together what successes/patterns come up that I can then use for copy in the next offer or to update something on my website.
Plan quarterly for major projects and do research early to know what you need to do. Work backwards from where you want to be each quarter and start making a list of action steps you have to do to make that project happen. The sample that comes to mind is an online course – if you want to launch a certain month, great! How do you want to host this course? Are you creating a community group to support students in the course? Where is that being hosted? How are you going to market that course? Are you providing workbooks and downloadable tutorials for your students?
You can see there is a rabbit hole to go through once you decide on a project, but the more you can anticipate, the more you can plan your weekly and monthly workloads, knowing what steps you need to take and in which order.
Voice record yourself talking about your future course content. Voice memos on your phone or a recorded Zoom call with a trusted business friend (with their permission!) can be a much quicker way of working through the knowledge you want to share with your clients. I don’t know many people that can pull up a chair and type up scripts for modules at the drop of a hat. Make it easier on yourself when you can!
Outsource! I dare you to find a successful business owner that has consistent profit, the time he or she wants to devote to their hobbies and family, and a recognizable brand presence, who isn’t outsourcing at least one thing in their business. I’ll wait.
Depending on your goals for your life, finances, and business, you will eventually reach the crossroads of solopreneurship or growing a team. Neither one is better than the other, but trying to do everything by yourself when you have bigger goals only burns you out and adds more stress to your life. Invest in yourself by investing in help!
