Branding Behind the Scenes: The Style Guide

One of my favorite parts of the pre-session planning process is the style guidance! If you’ve ever been caught in the spiral of thinking “I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR” for a branding session, read on friend!

First, we discuss your personal style (or lack thereof) and it’s relation to your brand visual strategy on a Zoom call. I ask you questions about who you’re trying to attract, what you feel like yourself in, and trends or styles you love/can’t stand. I ask for brand words that you want your photos to exude, and use those as my true north when choosing outfits. If you’re going to be shopping, we set a budget for my suggestions.

Then, I pull some inspiration and make a quick Pinterest board that you and I can both add to.

And finally, I create a three outfit guide that have interchangeable pieces, complete with accessory suggestions based on our chat, and clickable links for you to shop! But I always encourage seeing your own closet in a new light after you receive your style guide too. Most of us have hidden gems in there if they’re paired well. This part of the process is customized for you and your needs, so don’t be afraid to really shop your existing closet to create your favorite looks for your shoot.

Basically you get a personal shopper in your photographer – and who doesn’t love that!? The guide above is one of my newest favorites – not because of what was chosen, but hearing my client say it was a perfect refresh after losing her style “over the years as a busy mom and business owner, and choosing comfort over looking great for myself.”
