Step One for Business Product Photography

Calling all my product based business owners! Have you ever asked yourself “why do my photos look so inconsistent?” You might think I would start telling you about filters, light, angles, etc. But actually, there are a few questions that matter more than all of those. 

To answer that question, I will actually say is what kind of brand are you creating? What do you stand for? Why would someone buy your products over someone else’s? If you don’t have the answers to those questions, sorry girl – those filters and angles won’t help you. At least not if you’re looking to build a sustainable, purposeful business for the long term.

Here’s a sneak peek at the questions I asked a client today during a call about planning her product shoot:

What are your brand words? What do you want your customers to feel about your products/brand?

What are your customers literally saying about your products and brand experience (in email, text, DM, voice message, Zoom calls)?

Where is this round of photos going to be used and for how long?

How do those questions feel? Are you overwhelmed yet?

Just remember: you can’t walk into REI and buy a different body. You do the work, every day, in every tiny but mighty action, and you start to see results. Your business works exactly the same way. Take the time to answer these questions thoughtfully, and you’ll be amazed how much more clarity you have about your business! There’s no shortcuts in life – you do the work, you see what moves you forward, and adjust from there. THAT’S IT.
